Flattering Wedding Dresses For Big Brides

It’s one of the most famous royal wedding dresses of all but very hard to define. The gown worn by Queen Victoria on February 10th 1840 at St James’ Palace to marry her already beloved Albert is credited with making white weddings top of every stylish bride’s wish list but try and describe it and you might just come a cropper. Of course, there are no photos (well, possibly but that’s a whole other great big royal row) and many of the images we have are of the dress on mannequins in exhibitions. But it is a truly beautiful gown and a part of a royal story integral to the history of the British Monarchy. On the anniversary of that famous marriage, here’s a look at Queen Victoria’s wedding gown. I will share my opinion on these two fashion statements below and then you be the judge! Grace Kelly could have worn a burlap sack to her wedding and still looked stunning-thankfully she did not. Love this trip down memory lane. Truly amazing hub. The beautiful couple welcomed a new addition to their family. The Lord has blessed them with a very healthy, very handsome baby boy. To God be the glory! The Breath Gown that Danielle, played by Drew Barrymore, wears in Ever After is a show stopper, it’s just stunning. Though it’s a a simple silhouette the silver color and the little detail make this gown special. The detail on the gown are seed beads, sequins, pearl, lace and trims. This Gown just looks magical on scene. Out of the buckle styles I have tried, this one is probably the best-designed for adding an extra punch per buckle, rendering it perfect for skinny calves. Why? The extra leather folds easily into the inside of the boot, so nobody’s the wiser. This gleaming ECCO style features a generous (but not clunky looking) toebox and a snug heel, for maximum comfort.

The military, hunters, rednecks, and those individuals seeking to get a little closer to their country roots have taken on camouflage clothing as one of their everyday looks. Lace had become completely unavailable during World War II, and when the lace factories of Europe reopened, brides went for lace with a vengeance. The lace was often used as a whole piece of cloth, covering a satin or taffeta lining on the bodice of gowns. The top of the bodice and the sleeves could omit the lining to allow for a lace illusion neckline. Chantilly lace was also popular for the skirts of the wedding gowns; it was often used to create ruffled tiers on a full skirt. As an added accent, sequins and seed pearls were used on the gowns. This was the first ever televised Royal Wedding. I remember watching this Royal Wedding on television, and longing for a wedding dress like Princess Margaret’s. We chose the night for the vow renewals to coincide with our reservation for dinner on the beach. I got ready first and headed down to the ocean to a predetermined location where we were going to say our vows. My wife took her time to get ready and I recall feeling nervous waiting, just the same as I had 18 years earlier. After what seemed like an eternity, I looked along the walkway at the back of the beach and saw my bride, tanned and barefoot, strolling towards me. It was a moment I will never forget. Except for fine beads or shell necklaces, the body was bare from the waist up. If it was a winter wedding, she wore deerskin leggings and moccasins and a robe of turkey feathers. Her face was painted with white, red and yellow clay. A bride can have her perfect wedding and substantially cut her wedding budget cost by doing one thing: Renting her Designer Dream Bridal Gown. As a guest one doesn’t see too much activity from the mother of the groom and I was lucky and have a great mother in law. Thanks for the comment! The predominance of white as a fashionable color through the turn of the century also implies that it very well may have been acceptable for guests to appear in white at that time, but as with grooms, there’s much less description of the clothing of wedding guests. 1920’s Womens Fashion

I am happy to make a modest wedding dress for anyone who gives me plenty of time to make it! That’s because you need to have several fittings, so that I can get things right for you. Prices will vary depending on style, fabric etc. but feel free to email me with your phone number if you’d like to discuss ideas. My dress, above, was made from a pure ivory silk with gold fleurs de lys embroidered over it. Mom and I then went to the fabric department at Sears (now I’m really showing my age-Sears once sold yard goods) to see which patterns came close to my ideal dress. After selecting a few, we checked the fabric requirements and did some math. Even with Mom’s employee discount, we were looking at over $70 for fabric alone. We were also looking at a major time commitment. The logistics would be challenging, too, since Mom worked full time and I would be ninety minutes away at Purdue Weekend visits for fitting and sewing would be hard to manage as I crammed my last two years of engineering school into one.
